RESUMO

In this case report, we present 31-year-old twin sisters diagnosed with severe Barlow mitral valve prolapse, mitral annular disjunction and presence of lateral mid-wall fibrosis diagnosed on MRI as well as ventricular arrhythmias, and a very rare variant of Loeys-Dietz syndrome, being referred to our center for surgical repair. Genetic testing detected pathogenic variants of clinical significance in SMAD3 and KCNH2 genes that are associated with autosomal dominant disease of Loeys-Dietz syndrome. Due to the presence of severe mitral valve regurgitation, the first patient was referred for minimally invasive mitral valve repair that was performed successfully. Before discharge, a subcutaneous ICD implantation was performed as primary prevention against malignant ventricular arrhythmias and sudden cardiac death. Her twin sister presented with the identical diagnosis and underwent the same surgical procedure with S-ICD implantation a few months later.

RESUMO

Indoor localization has recently and significantly attracted the interest of the research community mainly due to the fact that Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSSs) typically fail in indoor environments. In the last couple of decades, there have been several works reported in the literature that attempt to tackle the indoor localization problem. However, most of this work is focused solely on two-dimensional (2D) localization, while very few papers consider three dimensions (3D). There is also a noticeable lack of survey papers focusing on 3D indoor localization; hence, in this paper, we aim to carry out a survey and provide a detailed critical review of the current state of the art concerning 3D indoor localization including geometric approaches such as angle of arrival (AoA), time of arrival (ToA), time difference of arrival (TDoA), fingerprinting approaches based on Received Signal Strength (RSS), Channel State Information (CSI), Magnetic Field (MF) and Fine Time Measurement (FTM), as well as fusion-based and hybrid-positioning techniques. We provide a variety of technologies, with a focus on wireless technologies that may be utilized for 3D indoor localization such as WiFi, Bluetooth, UWB, mmWave, visible light and sound-based technologies. We critically analyze the advantages and disadvantages of each approach/technology in 3D localization.

RESUMO

One of the major key questions raised in this retrospective study was to identify any correlation of atherosclerotic plaque volume of the ascending aorta and aortic arch with adverse events such as postoperative stroke, critical illness polyneuropathy and myopathy, as well as delirium and all-cause in-hospital mortality. In a second phase of this study, we investigated the relationship between atherosclerotic plaque volume and adverse events regarding the construction of proximal anastomosis on coronary artery bypass grafting procedures using different clamping techniques such as construction of anastomosis on cross-clamping or cross-clamping plus consecutive partial clamping of the aorta. The key findings of our research were that the size of calcium lesions of the ascending aorta and aortic arch correlates with early mortality, critical illness polyneuropathy/myopathy, and delirium but not with stroke. On the other hand, there were no significant differences between isolated cross-clamping versus cross-clamping plus consecutive partial clamping of the aorta regarding the primary adverse events by means of mean plaque volume.
